What we do

All work is done on a voluntary basis without any admin costs and the overheads are borne by the committee ensuring that 100% of the funds are used for the projects. BVTS works closely with a charity in Sri Lanka working on a voluntary basis (Thawalama Development Foundation) who help us to implement as well as monitor our projects.
Some committee members personally visit these selected project areas during different stages of the projects to plan and co-ordinate the programmes.

These projects are re-visited to assess their impact and for further work to be done. Therefore we have direct links with the villagers and hands on experience. Rather than giving handouts all our projects are based on self-help schemes on a village or community basis, in which villagers work towards a sustainable development and to break free from the cycle of poverty.

How we work

  • Our members and donors provide the financial support needed to function and follow our mandate.
  • All work is done on a voluntary basis, therefore, administrative costs are kept to a minimum.
  • Some committee members, at their own expense, visit Sri Lanka every year to choose suitable projects. Once the projects are chosen, they are implemented and visited regularly to monitor their progress. This enables direct links with the villagers and hands on experience with the projects.
  • BVTS works closely with a voluntary charity in Sri Lanka, who help monitor the progress of the projects. The projects are visited annually to evaluate their impact and assess the need for further work.
  • Rather than giving handouts, all projects are based on self-help schemes on a village or community basis. The villagers work towards a ‘sustainable development’ and to break free from the cycle of poverty.
